Organelle Definitions
1. The perimeters that are needed to classify something as 'a cell' is a plasma membrane, cytoplasm, ribosome, and DNA.
2. Cells are basic building blocks of all living things and all cells come from already existing cells.
3. Prokaryotic cells are cells without a nucleus and the DNA is in the cytoplasm. Eukaryotic cells are cells contain a nucleus and are usually larger, also they are found in multicellular organisms.
4. An organelle is a structure in the cell that performs a specific job. The origin of the word organelles is Modern Latin. Cited Work: "Organelles - Google Search." Organelles - Google Search. N.p., n.d. Web. 18 Sept. 2013.
5a. Chromosomes contain DNA which are encoded with genetic instructions for making proteins.
5b. The nuclear membrane is the membrane that surrounds the nucleus.
5c. The nucleolus is the structure found in the nucleus of the cell. Cited Work: "Nucleolus."Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 18 Sept. 2013. Web. 18 Sept. 2013
5d. Centrioles function microtubule that organize the centers, its important in two cellular process. Cited Work: Bora, Chandramita. "Centriole Functions." Buzzle.com. Buzzle.com, 24 Dec. 2012. Web. 22 Sept. 2013. <http://www.buzzle.com/articles/centriole-function.html>.
5e. The cytoskeleton forms a framework gives the cell an internal structure. The cytoskeleton is in the cytoplasm and is made of thread like tubes.
5f. Endoplasmic reticulum is an organelle that helps make proteins and lipids there are two kinds rough and smooth
5g. Golgi apparatus is an organelle that prepares proteins and prepares them for use in the cell and out side of the cell.
5h. lysosome use enzymes to break down matter from outside the cell and also dead cells.
5i. Mitochondria provide energy for the cell and contain some DNA.
5j. Ribosome are structure in the cytoplasm where proteins are made. They contain RNA that assembles with amino acids to make proteins.
5k. Vacuoles store and transport materials throughout the cell. It is a sac like organelle.
5l. Chloroplast capture energy from the sun and light and turn it into food and energy for the cell.
5m. Cell wall is a rigid layer that surrounds the plasma membrane and it supports and protects the cell.
5n. Plasma membrane is the coat of lipids that surrounds the cell it forms a boundary between the cell and the outside.
