The way an individual cell knows which specific proteins need to be made is through something called, the genetic code. The way a cell knows when proteins need to be made is a message that is sent to the DNA by hormones. The proteins are made specifically by codons which are 3 chemical bases that form amino acids and creates the proteins. Each cell can make a specific protein because the genetic material in the messenger RNA. It makes the transfer RNA get the corresponding amino acids and the amino acids fold up into protein.
